When we woke up on day four we couldn’t believe our trip was half over already! We had such a blast on day one with snorkeling and the luau. Day two was our first adventure with ziplining and a fantastic vegetarian meal. And day three was stunning on our long 5.5 hour waterfall rappel tour. Now day four we were headed to a helicopter tour over Kauai with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters.
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters is easy to find by gps and they also give detailed instructions on how to get there on your email confirmation which I was super thankful for after the day before. When you arrive you have a quick check in then can look around the gift shop until it is time for your safety video. They do sale Dramamine and Sea Band bracelets. You can save a few bucks by bringing your own though.
The safety stuff all was common sense. Don’t touch anything and if anything happens follow pilot’s instructions. You do get to wear a live vest pouch around your waist. All personal belongings get to stay behind accept camera and sunglasses. They asked Ryan to leave his Go Pro Stick behind and just bring the camera and to leave my wrist wallet behind as well. They do provide small lockers inside for belongs. Note also that you want to wear a dark colored shirt with no white, off white, tan, etc colored logos or words. The helicopter windows really do reflect a lot of stuff so this supports in minimizing it. If you do wear something that the staff feel will reflect they provide you with a dark loaner shirt to wear on the trip.
Before we started our tour we got to see a few groups load up, take off and return. We got to sit up front with the pilot which gave us great views. However, the way the tour worked everyone got to see everything. At the highlights the pilot made sure to circle around to ensure everyone could see and take pictures. The staff seat you by your weight to balance the chopper out so you do not get to choose.
The tour was awesome! We got to see several of the places we had been, but from a different angle. We saw the rocks we climbed on the first day. We saw the river we kayaked in. We saw the beach and hiking trails we were going to do on Friday. Plus, we saw a ton more. Waterfalls, mountains, valleys, Na Pali Coast, so much really. I’ll just show you a few pictures!
Ryan took Dramamine as he always does for flights and I wore Sea Band Bracelets for a safety measure. Even with that we both ended up feeling bad on the tour. It was stunning views so I was trying to soak it all in, but another part of me was thankful the tour was not longer. There were parts where Ryan was closing his eyes in hopes of feeling better. It was a bit windy the day we flew according to our pilot. However, he also said it was not that uncommon on that certain part of the tour. Oh, yes you can talk to the pilot to ask questions and he provides information about what you are seeing all through the tour.
Another thing is the helicopter is said to be at a comfortable temperature. It was in the mid 80’s outside for our tour and the sun is blaring in because it is mostly glass to give you the best view. If you are there when it is warmer I would go in cooler clothes. It could have been because I wasn’t feeling well but I was hot and wished my sunglasses had higher uv protection. Bring those sunglasses! I acknowledge sitting in the back row could provide a different experience too. Take lots of photos or video because there are reflections often. But with the slight move of the helicopter you can get a fantastic picture! It was so bright it was hard for me to see anything but my own reflect in my phone screen, so I just kept pointing and clicking!
All in all, even with not feeling well we thought that the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour was worth it! At the end of the tour a crew member will take a photo with the helicopter behind you.
With our helicopter tour being first thing in the morning we still had the majority of the day to roam around. We went back to Queen’s Bath which we went to previously in the week and were so glad we did! There were sea turtles! We had our snorkeling gear from Pedal ‘N Paddle so Ryan hopped in with them and swam around with sea turtles!
We also found a few more neat little nooks and crannies that were fun to hike, snorkel and take pictures in! That evening Ryan went for a run around the condo and I went to the grocery store to pick us up some dinner.
Another great day in the books for exploring Kauai!
