Today is actually my birthday! But I am not having a Hungry Caterpillar themed birthday! Last weekend we celebrated Miss M’s first birthday with friends and family. And her birthday was the Hungry Caterpillar theme. I thought I would share just a little bit about the day with you. But if you are curious what I do for my birthday you can check out my 25 random acts of kindness for my 25th birthday.
I honest just can’t believe how much Miss M has grown over the past year and honestly it has flown by! I shared her month by month pictures a few posts back so you can see for yourself just how much she has grown.
On to the celebration! The main thing that helped me decide to have the Hungry Caterpillar theme was the fact we did not want to give Miss M a birthday cake. She has yet to have wheat, dairy or processed sugars. So a birthday cake seemed like a REALLY bad idea. I was trying to think of what could go along with fruit. I then remembered the Hungry Caterpillar!
Here was the little fruit cake that I made her. She loved it!
We had a fruit bar with printables (no longer available) saying what the hungry caterpillar ate. We left out all the junk food that he ate on Saturday. Instead Miss M’s dress was full of sweets.
We had a few simple decorations as well. Some balloons that made the hungry caterpillar on the mantel. Some balloons on the table with printable color sheets, a stuffed animal (which is actually a neck rest) and the board book
. We also used paper plates to make the caterpillar where I added her monthly pictures to them.
Even though we asked for no gifts or clothes if they thought they had to bring something she still got a ton of stuff! She loved looking at the cards more than she liked the actual gifts. Especially, the one that sang!
I have to say it was a pretty amazing day to celebrate with family and friends!
What as your child’s 1st birthday theme?
Until Next Time- Truly Love,
Cassie
