Everyone has time saving tips in their life. From getting the a guy in to mow your lawns or ordering your grocery’s online there’s some weeks where asking for help keeps you sane! This date idea is one of those – it’s called Geocaching! Geocaching is also a great date idea for opposite personalities.
What’s Geocaching?
Right now, less than 30 minutes drive from where you’re reading this, someone’s hidden a treasure box known as a Geocache. Along the way they’ve marked down the GPS coordinates so others can find it – and find it you can!
When you do there will be 10 or so small toys or nic-nacs in a box. The idea is you take one out and put one of your own back for someone else to find!
All you need is a phone, the Geocaching app ($10) and some spirit of adventure!
Here’s some more details:
Prep done in 3 minutes:
Here’s how to get this one prepped and make this romantic in just 2 minutes:
-
Whip out your phone and download the Geocaching app
-
While it’s downloading grab a piece of paper and a pen
-
Also hunt around for a small toy, nic-nac or coin to swap with something in the Geocache
-
Once the app’s ready tap the Find nearby caches button
-
Tap on any of the green dots on the map and an ID# will come up (e.g. GC18TB1). Write this on your piece of paper along with Lets go explore…
-
Give this to your spouse

How to go all out
If you really want to go all out you could add 10 minutes to the prep time and duck into a store for some snacks and drinks as you’ll be walking outdoors.
If you’re really want to wow your husband/wife away there’s some more cool tips in this Geocaching Date guide.
Why this date works
Being outdoors with a map to follow gives you all the small talk you need for a whole afternoon. Since you’ll be talking anyway you’re more likely to connect about bigger things in your life as well
Go on – time it if you like – but whip your phone out and do the fastest date prep you’ve ever done!

Great idea! We did this a couple of years ago for the first time and loved it.
My husband and I are in the old age. We still have flip phones so I’m not sure if we could use out iPads to do this or not. We need to look into it because it seems fun!
Lols those phones are unbreakable! The car GPS units work pretty well too – they have a feature where you can plug in a GPS location!
This is such a cool idea. We’re gonna try it!! FUN! Glad I clicked on you at Messy Marriage.
Glad you like the idea Sheila! It does seem like it could be a lot of fun!
This looks like fun, Cassie! Thanks for sharing Elliott’s funny video on an interesting and inexpensive date idea! I’ll be sharing this on FB!
Nice Beth – my wife still things that I should start water fights with the drink bottle when on these but what’s a date without a little fun!
Make that *shouldn’t start 😉
I cannot wait to do this one!! It’s right up my husband’s alley and he would never think that I would suggest. His birthday is approaching..
What a great surprise for him, Pam! I bet he will love it!
