As we made choices in our delivery and our birthing plan we decided that we wanted to do a natural birth. However, we would be delivering at a local hospital. Although, we had been told the hospital was becoming more supportive of natural birthing procedures I still felt the need to make these little signs just in case we needed them. We actually did not end up needing to use these. We ended up having a pain medicine free birth, but it was not a natural birth. We had several complications. Feel free to check out our birth story.
Since we were having a girl I made them in “girly colors”, but made a set in “boy colors” for anyone else that may want to use them as well! Cut the long breastfeeding signs down the middle. Attach one to the baby’s bassinet and one to your room door. Cut bottom medicine sign off. Attach to room door or on board or chart where nurses take notes in your room.
These signs for natural hospital births were the best way I could think of to let the hospital staff know about our desires without repeating it every time a nurse came in. Granted we did have a birth plan. However, this was just a little something extra to help us keep our attention where it needed to be.

These are great. I hoped to have a pain med free birth with my first but I wasn’t committed enough. When they came and offered me an epidural I waivered and they talked me into it. For my second I stated in my birth plan that I did not want to be offered anything (but she ended up making such a quick appearance I had to go to the hospital in an ambulance!)
But I definitely think having a sign to remind the nurses is a great idea. It’s exhausting and easy to forget what you hope to do if someone is offering!
Rebecca- I do have to say the staff was great. I had a birth plan and even though we had complications they tried their best to stick with it. Not once was I offered medicine. In the self doubt stage I was saying I couldn’t do it anymore because I was exhausted (labor started at 9pm and was 19 hours long) and nurse kindly said something to the effect of we have other options. But that was it. Not having people offer did really help!
Nice signs! I’m curious if you have a post anywhere explaining why you chose a natural birth (ie. no pain medicine). I’ve seen a lot of people that make this choice and are adamant about it, but I’m curious why. Thanks!

I don’t have a post explaining why we chose to go with a natural birth. For us we try to do things more natural and healthy ways. We for sure don’t go all out or crazy “hippy” stuff but we make choices that we feel will allow us to live long healthy lives. When we got pregnant I knew I wanted to do natural birthing. I believe God created our bodies to give birth. I completely believe in modern medicine and know that it has saved many lives which is why we chose to birth at the hospital. However, we also believed we didn’t need interventions to birth. With that I will say we had complications in our labor and delivery. I am very thankful for the staff at the hospital and what they did for us! But a small part of me wonders if some of the interventions caused more interventions. But I also know you can find supporting evidence for what ever side you are researching. So I say all that to say I believe you have to do what you feel is right. For us that was no pain medication and least interventions as possible. I hope that helps!
