Ryan has been encouraging and aided in my learning since the beginning. When Ryan and I were first dating he recommended a book to be titled, “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson. Soon thereafter I had a copy of it in my hand. I continued to turn page after page being inspired by the great content. Once I completed the book I wrote some quotes from the book on note cards. I used these cards in the beginning when I was injured and had to use the elliptical machine rather than running. Now I continue to use them sometime on long indoor rides, but also some of these are ingrained in my head so that I can pull from that little Rolodex when I need them! The book itself is not talking about running, but life in general. However, I feel these quotes are great encouragement for athletes! I hope you enjoy these running quotes!
“Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do.”
“Having a dream is not always a matter of all roses and sweetness; ambitions, aspirations and desires can be uncomfortable, even painful.”
“It may take a few years to put your success on track- but it takes your entire life to fail.”
“Be afraid of not going slowly; be afraid only of standing still.”
“Negative and difficult things happen to us all… It’s how we react, how we view those circumstances and conditions that make the difference between success and failure- and that is completely within our control.”
“For things to change, you’ve got to change. For things to get better, you’ve got to get better.”
“Successful people don’t look for shortcuts, nor do they hope for the ‘big breakthrough’ .”
“Sharpen yourself and pursue your path through those simple, small easy disciplines and compounded over time, they will take you to the top.”
“The price of neglect is much worse than the price of the discipline.”
“There is one quality one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and the burning desire to possess it.”
