Homeschooling multiple children can be a bit overwhelming if not planned properly. You can have kids who are in different grades, needing different curriculum books, and who face unique challenges. Quickly it can become overwhelming with all the physical things in your space trying to figure out who needs to be on what page. This is why homeschooling multiple children with Sonlight curriculum is a must for me!
Homeschooling with Sonlight allows me to use some of the same programs for both of my girls, our supply list is shorter and most of our needed items are books. Not only does this make our physical space more tidy it allows me to mentally be able to wrap my head around homeschooling. Those are all wins for me!

How to homeschool multiple children with Sonlight curriculum:
- Choose a History/Bible/Literature Program: These programs are for an age range and are primarily based on read alouds. This way you can do the readings with all of your children in one sitting. Then, conversations ebbs and flows about the readings based on the individual child’s understanding and curiosity. You can also choose 4 or 5 day programs to fit your life and meet your child’s needs. We typically do these readings when the girls first wake up with some morning cuddles and before nap time to start resting.
- Choose a Language Arts Program: Again these programs are in an age range with a suggested grade level. If you have kids who are two to three years apart you can do one Language Arts program as well. Rather than the traditional idea of having one for each student. The Language Arts program includes reading, writing, spelling, oral sharing, grammar and more. We enjoy that a lot of the program is centered around a book that is being read. The spelling words, copy work and grammar are all things that can be found in that weeks book.
- Choose a Reading Level: This is where you can individualize the program for each child. You choose a reading level for your child. Sonlight has a reading assessment your child can take to support you in choosing their reading levels. Based on their reading levels you will then be recommended what readers to purchase for them. Your child’s age could be a first grader in public school, but they may need to be on kindergarten or second grade readers. This is a wonderful way to meet each of your children where they are.
- Add on Other Subjects: Sonlight has science curriculums along with partner curriculums of math, art, music and more. Depending on how much time you are wanting to spend on homeschool, your children’s interests and what’s important to you you can choose what is right for your family. Many of these subjects you can also teach one curriculum to multiple children.

If you are interested in looking further into Sonlight homeschooling programs they generously have samples for three weeks of most programs! You can go get samples of any grade you would like to look at.
Homeschooling multiple children doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With Sonlight you start by choosing a base History/Bible/Literature program. Then, add on a Literature program that fits your children’s age range. Next, find out their reading level to know what readers they need. Lastly, add on any other subjects you may want to add.

With Sonlight Curriculum you can eliminate extra books and supplies along with homeschooling in less time each day. Most importantly homeschooling multiple children with Sonlight curriculum can be straightforward and rewarding!
