When we moved to our new home a few months back we went ahead and put some of Miss M’s things into the baby’s room. However, we did not want to move and change her whole room at the same time as we thought that would be a bit much for the toddler to take in. So slowly over time we transitioned her out of the crib and stopped using the rocker. I finally got around to doing the toddler room make over! And I went with an elephant theme!
Ryan’s mom gave us an old bedroom set from his family. We placed the twin mattress directly on the floor and read her stories there before bed. Miss M slept on the bed for a while, but currently she prefers to sleep on the floor by her door. I think she looks under the door until she falls asleep!
Miss M loves to read so I knew I wanted a reading corner in her room before I ever knew how I wanted to redecorate her room. I requested my mom start working on that for her birthday back in July. I found some fabrics that I liked then for that. However, integrating the colors from those fabrics that I chose and the yellow bedroom set became a little bit of a challenge.
I reached out to a friend blogger, Allison from Refunk My Junk, who made me a inspiration board. I couldn’t end up finding the bed spread which really would have pulled things together well. And Ryan wasn’t a fan of the unicorns. Thankfully, it still gave me some inspiration to start with though!
Let’s take a look around to see what we ended up with!
Blue triangle comforter from Target along with some pillows that my mom made for the reading corner. The yellow elephant pillow is what I saw that made me choose to go with the elephant theme rather than unicorn. I fell in love with it!
The elephant pillow is also from Target.
Next to the bed is the yellow dresser that came with the bedroom set that Ryan’s mom gave us. Above it I wanted to do a picture collage. After some searching I was inspired by the picture collage in the toddler room makeover A Crafted Passion did.
I used some frames I already had and added two more from the Dollar Tree. I just spray painted them. Same with the floating shelf. It use to be black. Added some of our favorite pictures to the frames. The fabric garland was a baby shower gift a friend gave to us to decorate Miss M’s nursery. I just took out the colors that didn’t fit anymore and was able to reuse the rest.
The mini elephant lamp came from Pottery Barn. I think it is so cute! But we keep it unplugged for now or else Miss M would turn it on every night.
This is a DIY piece of art I did for the wall. I used pastel chalk on canvas to make different tones of grays. I found an elephant outline online and traced it on thick scrap booking paper. Cut it out and glued it on top. Seeing how I had all the supplies other than the paper it turned out to be a 0.50 cents art piece!
This is a close up of the floating shelf. I already had the blue little pitcher. I found some 1/2 off flowers at Hobby Lobby along with the mini elephant. The glass frame came from Ross Dress For Less. I was browsing Pinterest for a print to put in the frame, but ended up making my own using Canva.
Here is the reading corner which was inspired by this pin. My mom took doors off the benches and painted it all white. She had a friend make the orange top pads along with the blue triangle print pillows.
I added simple square baskets from Walmart. I wasn’t even going to get a rug since we have carpet, but when I saw this one at Ross for $20 I couldn’t pass it up!
Here is the close up of the floating shelves. The M again came from her nursery decoration, I just repainted it. The ultrasound picture and block sort also came from old decor. Then, I just added some books from her shelf.
The blue container matches the blue pitcher that was on the other floating shelf in the picture collage. The quote was also old nursery decor. The elephant also came from Ross Dress For Less for under $10.
There you have it! The elephant theme toddler room make over! Next week I will share the baby’s nursery which is a pink and green bird theme. Getting the two girls rooms done has definitely been some nesting projects for me. We are six weeks or less away from baby’s arrival so wanted to have everything set up. These are the first two rooms in the house that we have actually decorated. Ryan is dying to remodel the kitchen. We will see what we do next!
What toddler theme room makeovers have you seen that you like?
Until Next Time – Truly Love,
Cassie
