4 Ways To Support Your Spouse

Image courtesy of stockimages and FreeDigitalPhotos.netThere are a lot of roles and duties that come along with being a spouse. One that we sometimes forget is to be a supporter.

Ryan and I both always have some kind of project going on. We are always working towards a goal. If you have been a reader for long you know that we are on the journey of Ryan becoming a professional triathlete and a youth motivational speaker. While I am also an athlete  and work on this blog. Those are things we constantly are supporting each other for, but then other projects come up.

Our current adventures consist of: Ryan has been having it on his heart for a while now to teach Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. (Dave has some great newlywed financial tips too!) I am currently training for a marathon to raise money for cancer research. I actually got interviewed for the project last week! You can check it out if you would like (it is a bit lengthy).

As we stay focused on our main goals yet introduce new projects I am reminded of the importance of supporting our spouse. Supporting our spouse is one of the biggest ways we can say I love you!

Let’s check out 4 ways to support our spouse!

  1. Believe in your spouse- Going for a goal takes a lot of courage. The odds are other people may say negative things or not believe your spouse is capable of reaching their goal. It is our job to encourage them and be their biggest cheerleader. Make sure they know you believe in them!
  2. Be there for them when it counts- There will most likely be a time or times that are important for you to be there. The day of the marathon would be that for me or Ryan’s first class might be his. Making the time and effort to be there during those special milestones will help your spouse to know you are fully supporting them.
  3. Lend a helping hand- There will be times that they will need your help! This may be picking up some extra duties within the family for a time frame while they focus on their goal or it may be a one time errand.
  4. Make sacrifices- To reach a goal it should require changes. Changes in one person’s life often means sacrifices for others that are around them. Think about how important this goal or project is to your spouse and be willing to sacrifice things that don’t mean that much to you to be able to aid them in accomplishing their goal. This is where we have the opportunity to be servant lovers!

When trying to decide how to support your spouse in their new endeavor think about the golden rule. If you were the one with the new endeavor how would you want your spouse to support you?

What is your spouse’s current goal or project that you are supporting them on?

Until Next Time- Truly Love,

Cassie

We went through FPU almost 2 years ago and it completely changed our lives, we are now debt free 🙂 It was fun to go back and speak at a later class to give our testimony too!

We, too, went through the class and are on track to be debt free this coming Spring! What an incredible freedom! And these past couple of years I’ve really learned how important it is to support Robert through everything. And when I do that, I have such joy!

So much greatness can happen when we both are supporting each other and seeking God’s guidance! It is going to be a wonderful feeling when spring rolls around!
