Our First Home!

We have our first home! Let me give you a little background history: I lived in a 475 square foot apartment before Ryan and I got married….now we both have been living in that 475 square foot apartment with our two bikes! We do not have cable as we do not watch much tv. My neighbor which I use to pay for wifi moved out, so we are without internet. It typically doesn’t cause many issues because by the time we get off work, workout and eat dinner it is typically time to start wrapping up the evening. However, Ryan and I both agree that it would be nice to have more room so that everything would actually have a place. After Ryan moved in things just kind of started getting shoved where there was room for it.

Now back to our first home: The whole process has been pretty smooth with minimal, if any issues. We are getting a great deal on just the kind of house we were looking for. Some of the perks we are looking forward to are: the garage (I have never had a garage before), a washer and dryer (I haven’t had one in my place of living since I moved from home to go to college almost 6 years ago), a place to put our bikes, a real size kitchen, two bathrooms and just more room! It’s going to be like I am living in a castle!

The past two weeks we have done some work to the place! Check out the pictures below to see what we have been up to!

ENTRY WAY

Before- Lovely Wall Paper!

Ryan working hard to take the wall paper off!

1 whole day of work, 2 layers of wall paper, 3 bottles of remover later…

It’s all off! The wall is only a little beat up!

But after some TLC here is the after look!

DINING ROOM/KITCHEN

Welcome to our wood paneled dining room!

First we put primer on the paneling…

Then gave it a coat of paint and painted the doors!

Finished look

Our kitchen is open to the dining room and has a little breakfast nook…

More wall paper…5 layers this time!

After some paint!

Wall paper yet again!

Under the huge mirror I found a huge hole!

After a little mud, tape, sanding and elbow grease we made a nice holeless wall!

Pink tile, pink walls, pink shower curtain and stain glass window!

Changed wall color, got rid of stain glass (Ryan was devastated!), but had to keep the tile for now.

Soon to be know as office and workout room

On the to do list: Paint the remainder of the doors white.

Our not so master bath!

We have worked on the place for about two and a half weeks. After work we went there to get as much done as possible. We won’t say it was hard, but it sure as heck wasn’t easy.  I mean take a look at the picture below:

We cooked frozen pizzas for dinner using the cardboard from the pizza wrapped in foil as our plates.

Only to realize we had no knife to cut the pizza!….

So this is what it looked like!

And of course we had no table or chairs so we stood to eat. Fun times!

We had a lot of help on the weekends too! Our families came to help, friends let us barrow things and more friends will be helping us move this weekend! The process went great including a few surprises when we opened the paint can for each room. Each paint can we opened the color was different that what we expected! All went well though and we are super excited to be homeowners! Ryan and I are ready to get moved into our first home and get settled! We are looking forward to all the “luxuries” our first home will have, but we are most looking forward to having our evening routine back!
