After a race sometimes it is hard to know exactly what to say to your runner. That’s why I am sharing 10 phrases of encouragement for runners.

You are proud of their accomplishments whatever they did. But how do you let them know that? One thing I find myself saying over and over to runners is “What you did today is more than most people did today.” Then, I envision people sitting on their couch that early Saturday morning watching television or even better still in bed.

After your runner completes their race do you wonder what to say other than "good race"? Here are some things they will love to hear!

But that phrase really isn’t the best. Below are ten phrases that are probably better options. But are you looking for some sayings to put on signs to encourage your runner during the race? Check out these motivational signs for races.

No matter what the phrases you say make sure to focus on something positive and something about the runner. Although it can be fun to talk about the fun swag bag or the cool music on course your runner really wants to hear what they did that was good.

10 Phrases of Encouragement for Runners

  • You looked strong.
  • Your form was great.
  • It seemed like you had power going up hill.
  • Way to keep your head in the race.
  • I’m so proud of you for finishing even though it was tough.
  • I’m glad you were able to keep going.
  • You looked light on your feet.
  • You passed him with such ease.
  • You finished like a champion.
  • Just think about what you accomplished today.

Of course these phrases should be used in context and only if they are true statements. The most encouraging things are those that are genuine and true.

Now you might be wondering when you should say these things. There are several opportunities for you to genuinely share theses phrases of encouragement. The first time would be right after the race when you see them. Then, later when they are telling you their race review. Later, when you hear them sharing with a friend or post on social media about the experience. Just pop in a little encouraging word each time they bring up the race experience again.

Your encouraging words not only will impact them on that day. But days later it will make a difference too. Those words ring through their ears the next time the are having a hard training day or are suffering at the next race.

Encouraging your runner doesn’t have to be hard. Choose one of these 10 encouraging phrases to tell your runner today!

What is an encouraging phrase you tell your runner?

Until Next Time- Truly Love,

Cassie
