There are a ton of different tips and strategies that people share that are suppose to help you get fit. Some work. Some don’t. Today, I am going to share with you my secret strategy that helps me get and stay fit. Even after my pregnancies. It’s nothing too crazy. It’s actually quite simple. It’s something I have been doing on and off as needed for years now. It works great for me so I am sharing it in hopes that you can have success with this strategy too!
What is this strategy you ask?
I chew Orbit gum!
That’s it. It’s that easy. Now before you roll your eyes and think it won’t work for you let me explain.
For me getting fit is a balance between getting good workouts in AND eating good food. It is a lot easier for me to get workouts in than to eat good food. My exercise becomes a routine fast which makes it easy for me to do. However, cutting my snacking habit and my sweet tooth is a lot harder! That is why I choose to chew Orbit to help me hit my fitness goals.
Times to implement this secret strategy of chewing gum:
- After holiday times when we have had extra sweets
- During our monthly cycle when we want to snack more
- While stressed if you are a stress eater
- When we want a sweet treat
- If we are trying to hit a new fitness goal
How to implement this secret strategy of chewing gum:
- Chew a piece of gum each time you have a craving for a sweet.
- Have a healthy snack then chew a piece of gum.
- Put packs of gum in the places that you reach for food when you are stressed.
- Choose a piece of gum to have after eating any smoothie/shake.
I have found that often times if I drink some water and chew a piece of gum when I am craving a sweet the craving will go away. Also, if I eat a healthy snack or smoothie but still feel like I want to eat. Not like I am still hungry, but the desire to just keep eating. Chewing a piece of gum will get rid of that desire also. I think there is some kind of scientific study about the action of chewing triggers something to help us feel full. And often times we feel hungry when we are dehydrated. So drink some water and chew some gum!
Since high school I have been implementing this secret strategy with Orbit gum to get and stay fit. That’s why when I had a chance to work with Wrigley’s #ChewToABetterYou campaign I was all over it! #ChewToABetterYou encourages people to incorporate sugar free gum into their Health and Wellness routine to promote balance through mindful consumption.
Currently, one month after my second pregnancy I am setting goals to get fit again. That means kids yoga with Miss M until I am cleared at my six week postpartum appointment. Then, I plan to move into daily squats until I can take Little Sis to the gym daycare at two months old. I am working to minimize my sweet intake and up my vegetable consumption. Which means I am back to using this secret strategy of chewing Orbit. Ryan has often questioned my strategy, but it works for me.
Orbit has a ton of sugarfree flavors including Spearmint, Peppermint, Wintermint, Bubblemint, Strawberry, Citrus, Sweet Mint and Orbit White. My personal favorites are Sweet Mint and Bubblemint. With all the flavors you can mix things up to ensure this secret strategy to get fit works for you too!

I’ve been noticing this same thing recently! Thanks for putting into words what I’ve been mulling over in my mind.
Terri says
Great idea. I eat far less when im chewing gum
Cassie says
Me too, Terri! I know sometimes I eat out of boredom so chewing gum gives me something to do or at least a little something sweet if I’m craving sweets.
Amy Hagerup says
I find that chewing gum makes me want to chew more. It seems to increase my appetite. But I’m glad it works for you.
Cassie says
Oh that’s interesting, Amy! We all are wired a bit different and get to find what works for the each of us. It’s all about mindful consumption!
Samantha says
It does work for me though it makes my jaws hurt haha!
Cassie says
Well that’s no good Samantha! I’m glad it works for you though. Maybe if you’re only implementing on occasions rather than chewing gum all the time it would hurt less?
Kristi says
I actually had to give up chewing come several years ago because it became like an addiction. Sounds silly, but true in my case. So glad it works for you and congrats on the new baby!
Cassie says
That doesn’t sound crazy at all, Kristi! I can see how that could happen. Especially, when there are so many different type and flavors to get hooked on. It’s all about healthy habits. Not replacing one unhealthy habit for another.

Smart tip!
Cassie says
Thank you, Aleida. Thank you for stopping by!
Maria Hass says
This is simple, but Brilliant! I never thought about chewing gum to help me control cravings, which I’m struggling with. Thanks!
Cassie says
I use to chew gum just out of habit. Then I stopped because I didn’t like that it was a habit. But the past few years I’ve found a healthy balance where it supports my fitness goals. I don’t chew gum out of habit anymore, but use it as a tool to support me.
