Ironman in California

Two weeks ago we headed to California for a week. Ryan was racing an Ironman distance race on the Saturday so we decided to take some extra time on either side of the race and enjoy a little vacation. Ryan’s mom came with us and it was Miss M’s first time flying. We ended up renting a villa instead of doing a hotel. It was much more cost effective and it allowed us to buy groceries and cook there. Which was great! I think we will try to rent a condo/villa instead of doing hotels from now on!

I wanted to share a few pictures with you from our trip and the race. Pictures can never express the memories and moments as well as being there in person, but it sure is fun to show them off anyways. Hope you enjoy a little peak into our week!

Ironman in California (12)

Miss M and Dad hanging out by the pool enjoying the nice weather. We really just hung out a lot leading up to the race.

Race morning. Bright and early!

Ironman in California (11)

It was a 13 hour race day for Ryan.

Ice cold waters made for a rough start, but he warmed up on the bike and finished with another Ironman distance race behind him!

Ironman in California (2)

We made race signs for Ryan before we left home.

That is one way we passed the time. We also went back to the villa and took a nap and ate lunch.

Ironman in California (3)

The run was a four loop course so we got to see him several times. I ran with him for a bit to keep him company.

I’m not back to my normal running speeds since pregnancy yet. He had to do an Ironman for me to be able to keep up with him 😉

He looks a bit tired after the race! I wonder why?! That is what 140.6 miles will do to you!

Shield date farm

The day after the race we went to a date (like the fruit) farm that was down the street from where we were staying. Did you know like 80% of dates come from that part of California? I didn’t know that until we went on the tour. It was pretty neat! We also had date ice cream shakes!

The next day we went hiking. I carried Miss M in a carrier which I also did for the flights and some on race day. That worked out great!

We thought this was pretty neat looking! So I had to get a picture of Ryan driving our rental mini van through.

And the sunset!

The following day we took an air tram up like 8,000 feet and hiked some more. It was really neat!

It was a really nice week! It felt good to relax for a bit. It was fun to see Ryan get some extra time with Miss M. Very enjoyable trip. And my man is an Ironman once again!

Until Next Time- Truly Love,

Cassie

So cool, he is awesome!! Sounds like a wonderful little getaway, that’s great that his mom was able to join you too! I’ve been hearing more and more lately people renting villas or condos over hotels. I like eating out every once in a while but hate having to on vaca so that would be great!

It was really nice to have the villa, Mia. We still ate out a few times, but I would say only like a 3rd of the time. It was a great way to save money. And it actually was going to cost the same amount to rent 1 hotel room for the week. Seeing how his mom was coming along we would have been getting two rooms. So big money saver!

Thanks, Ali! It was so much fun! The ice cream was good too. REALLY sweet though. I didn’t end up eating it all. It only came in one size, but honestly the 3 of us could have shared one!
