We had the pleasure of going to Dave Ramsey’s The Legacy Journey Live. And I have to say it was pretty AMAZING!
Ryan listens to him online almost every day while he is at work so he knows Dave’s personality and such. I on the other hand I have only read his books. I was in for a surprise! Dave was very fun and very in your face about the truth. I loved it! I just can’t help it- I have to share some of his quotes from the evening!
Take into account these quotes may be a little better with the back stories and the story Dave would lay out before us. I will do my best to let you know the context of them if need be. I hope you enjoy!
“You don’t wonder into a legacy. You force yourself into one.”
He talks about the importance of having a WRITTEN budget. Every dollar has a place to go. If you are very intentional about your money then you can have a legacy when you are no longer around.
“Fair doesn’t mean equal.”
Dave was telling about how some people get upset when people do well. They start to complain there is a wealth distribution problem, the rich just get richer, etc. He went on to explain we all can do the same things the wealthy people did. Some just choose to continue to make bad money choices. Therefore, some will have more than others.
“Poor is a state of mind. Broke is, ‘I’m just passing through.'”
When referring to when he and his family had to file bankruptcy he said he was never poor he was only broke.
“More money makes you more of what you are- good or bad.”
As his daughter, Rachel, said: If you were a scum before you had money you will be a bigger scum when you have more money.
“You are the manager, not the owner.”
Dave talks about how we are the manager of the money that God blesses us with not the owner. It is our responsibility to manage it well. We are never to think, “This is our money.” But instead think, “How should I manage this money God gave me?”
If you are interested in learning more about getting out of debt or how to build your legacy there are a ton of resources on his site. Also, I would recommend the Marriage & Money Bundle.
What quote resonated with you and why?
Until Next Time- Truly Love,
Cassie

Love Dave! We have his book “Total Money Makeover” and have learned so much- it’s really helped us manage our money and be intentional about where it’s going. Best investment in a book ever!
I really enjoyed the quote: “Fair doesn’t mean equal.”. I used to be one of those people (and, every once in a while I get this way still) that thought it wasn’t fair that everyone else was able to get a new house, new car, etc. But I’ve realized that it’s all about choices, and if my husband and I make smart money choices, then we’ll be able to afford all of those things as well- without putting it on a credit card! 🙂
So true Jess! It is all about choices. But yes sometimes I still get wrapped up in some things. Then I remember I can only control what I do with my money!
What a great sounding speaker! I love the scum quote. Funny and probably very accurate!
I’m a big fan of Dave and his system to getting debt free and staying debt free. I especially liked “You are the manager, not the owner.” Everything we have comes from God, so we need to do our best to manage our money and time in a way that always brings glory and honor to Him!
Oh so true Kristal! I hadn’t thought about it in the aspect of a “manger” before hearing this from Dave.
Got to love Dave Ramsey, we are so thankful for him!
