Couples who spend well have become more aware about their money through experience. They have learned to spend their money wisely and understand that there are consequences to mindless spending. Some people are natural spenders and some are natural savers. Ryan and I both tend to naturally spend little. The great news is no matter what your natural spending habits are you can learn techniques that will aid you in spending well.
The following are some tips and tricks that you can adapt to your own lifestyle. These pointers work for both the natural spender and the natural saver. They will make you more conscious about money and will even set you on the path to build your savings.
1. Research products and find reviews.
If you’re going to be spending a large amount of money on something like a new television, elliptical machine, or a laptop, then you should definitely be reviewing your options. This is typically Ryanβs job. He searches many different brand names and models with all their pros and cons. Reading reviews from other customers is one of the best ways to find out if something is really worth your money. You can find reviews all around the internet and this will help you make an informed decision.
2. Take advantage of online catalogues and stores.
Online catalogues and finance stores often give you deals that you won’t find anywhere else. They also might come with free shipping and random little perks that help you save a dollar or two. Exploring all of your options including online catalogues is the best way to make sure you are getting the best deal possible as well as quality products.
3. Find deals and use coupons in order to minimise your costs.
Deals are everywhere, and with a bit of patience and searching, you can find them. This money definitely adds up, and regularly buying things that are on sale will show you just how much you can save. Iβm typically the one on the lookout for deals and bargains. I also take advantage of coupons; the small amount that I save when I use coupons also builds up, and helps us get great deals on our favourite brands. It is common to find coupons on manufacture websites and in online catalogs. You will be shocked by how much you can save.
4. Consult with one another.
Couples who save a lot of money are constantly communicating with each other and work as a team. When you have two pairs of eyes rather than one, it is much easier to find deals and make informed decisions. Both of you can search for reviews and then let each other know what you think of a certain product, weighing the pros and cons of each one. Consulting each other also allows you to ask each other important questions about the purchase. This will help you make smart decisions and will also allow you to work as a team.
Following these tips alongside your partner is a great way to start building your savings and become more aware and smart when it comes to spending. Though it takes a bit of time and patience to become more money conscious, it will be worth it in the long run when you have accumulated savings.
What is a habit you believe couples who spend well possess?
Until Next Time- Truly Love,
Cassie

I am obsessed with RetailMeNot.com for coupons and discount codes on everything from car rentals to Target!
Oh yes, retailmenot is a great place to find discounts! I use a cash back service for all my online shopping. We have received over $290 dollars on stuff we were already going to buy since September! We get 7.6% cash back from Target, Walmart is even 7%. Other stores we use it for is Best Buy, Apple, Buy Buy Baby and some other stores we like. If you are interested to find out more just shoot me an email and I will share my secret π
Having that team-mindset is so important to money matters. You really must talk through all of that stuff or it can “eat your lunch” as a couple! π My husband and I have tried to be open and work together on this–which hasn’t always been very easy for us! But I can see the importance of each of the principles you’ve pointed out, Cassie! Thanks for talking about this topic. I don’t hear enough about the issue in the blogosphere, so this is refreshing, my friend! Happy Easter to you and Ryan as well! π
Never thought to check the manufacturer’s site for deals – great idea!
I first started doing that with groceries. I looked on their personal sites for coupons on the foods we were already eating. But this goes for big items as well!
