Are you a nagging wife?….
Remember nagging is: the interaction in which one person repeatedly makes a request, the other person repeatedly ignores it and both become increasingly annoyed.
I try really hard not to nag! I have written about nagging wives not once, but twice! And here I am for a third time! As I mentioned in my first post with my personality I have to work hard not to nag. Having a to do lists and checking things off is my game and sometimes I think all people are like that. Now that I am married I try often to remember that is not the case! Today, I thought I would share a story that could easily be turned into a story of a horrible, nagging wife.
So here it is summer time and of course I have a long list of things I would like to do over the break. One of which is to have a garage sale. There were some things in the house when we moved in, along with things we have accumulated over the years. In one of closets in the garage was filled with these items to get rid of. Another thing on my list to do was to organize the garage. However, I could not do that until we had a garage sale.
We also have a closet in the spare room with clothes that Ryan has not worn in a long time or even worn ever! When he bought them home from his mom’s he planned to go through them and add some to our garage sale. Needless to say things get busy and he had not gone through the closet. I set the date for the garage sale and told Ryan two weeks before hand.
As the days progressed Ryan had still not gotten around to going through the cloths. There were several times I wanted to “remind” him or ask him when he was going to get around to it. However, I bit my tongue and did not say anything. I reminded myself there is probably a reason he has not done it. The week before the garage sale Ryan was pretty busy with preparing mentally for a race and finishing up a video. Again, I kept telling myself those things are more important than him going through the closet. I finally became okay with the fact that he may not get to the closet for this garage sale.
Friday morning rolled around and it was day one of the garage sale. No men’s clothing was in the garage sale that day. I had a lot of business and made a good chunk of money. Saturday was day two. That morning Ryan woke up to go for his Saturday 3 hour ride. Before he left that morning he took the few minutes that he did have to go through the closet. Men clothes were in the garage sale that day! The day passed slowly with few customers and only one person taking a look at his shirts.
At the end of the day I had to chuckle at the situation. Over the past two weeks the thought about Ryan going through the closet came to mind several times and I had to remind myself not to be a nagging wife. I had a lot of people stop by the day he did not have his shirts out there, yet when he did put some clothes in the garage sell hardly anyone came by!
Now how bad could that situation have been if I would have nagged Ryan for two weeks about it? I nag at him so he gets irritated, but also overwhelmed because he has other things that he feels is more important. So then his negatives vibes rub on me which makes me upset because I don’t understand why he is mad. Oh and then to think if none of his clothes sold which could then even make him more mad at the thought that he spent his valuable time going through the closet only because I nagged him about it. MAN! That makes me tired just typing it!
This situation was a simple reminder to me that I never want to be a nagging (annoyance, distraction or constantly scolding) wife! In most cases it’s really not worth nagging about! Ask yourself today, “Am I a nagging wife?” If you answer yes to that question, what are you going to do about it?
