A wise person said once, having an empty laundry basket is the best five seconds of the week. And by wise person, I mean a bunch of memes from Instagram that I have seen. I realize I am not alone in “loving” doing the laundry as long as that did not include switching it to the dryer, taking it out and folding. And yet, here we are continuing to wear clothes. While I have you riveted reading about why doing laundry is the pits, let’s chat about why doing it at the laundromat is better than doing it at home. In this post there are just a few reasons to use a laundry mat when you own a washer.

Reasons to Use a Laundry Mat When You Own Washer
Large Bedding – Queen size comforters don’t fit in many washers, and if you have a king or California king (like we do in our master bedroom remodel) , forget about it! It is suggested by several resources to wash your sheets every one to two weeks and comforters at least once a season. They also point out that this should be done more often if you
have people, or pets, sleep on the comforters. Do research and find your nearest laundromat near Appomattox, VA !
Kids Bedding – Man, kids are a mess. Winter is tough on noses and nose bleeds become an issue. Babies who blow out their diapers and soak their bedding. Toddlers and pre-schoolers who are still working on staying dry overnight. I have a friend who was just lamenting about finding play dough in her child’s sheets. If you don’t want to mess with all of that don’t think about it, just take it to the laundromat.
Heavy Soil – Whether you have two legged children or four legged children, they can find new ways to get super messy (whether or not they asked permission first.) Playing in the rain sounded like a great idea, until it wasn’t. Going on a nature walk with the pup is great, until you are on the trail and it is a mess, and now you and the dog are covered in mud. Look at the mess, take a deep breath, throw it in the travel laundry basket and go to the laundromat. Their water is hotter and can do a much better job getting the dirt out. Heavy soil is definitely reasons to use a laundry mat when you own a washer.
Curtains – Washing these can be so tedious. Take them all down at once, keep the bars down by the window, take a trip to the mat, and come home in about an hour to hang them back up. Tedious? Maybe, but way less of a time suck than doing them at home one load at a time until you make your rounds around the whole house.
Playing Catch Up – Maybe you are preparing for, or coming home from a vacation. Maybe you are about to have visitors and you need to get everything cleaned quickly. Maybe, you loathe laundry and you wait until you are completely out of clothing. Whatever the reason, take your trunk (or truck) full of clothing to the laundromat.
People – Maybe this won’t hit for all of you, but people watching or making new connections really excite many extroverts. This experience might teach you something about yourself, or society. Create stories about the people you see, maybe you will write a book. Maybe you will meet your new best friend or the love of your life. The possibilities are endless.
Better for the Environment – Did you know that laundromat machines are highly efficient? Supposedly,
commercial washing machines use half the amount of water compared to your washer at home. So, if
you are looking to make a smaller carbon footprint, use The Clothes Spin or a local laundromat near you!

Self-Care – Yes, you read that correctly. Doing your laundry can be categorized as self-care. Tell your partner you have laundry to do and good luck with the children, dinner, noise, and nonsense. Collect your laundry, your headphones, a book, some downloaded podcasts or guilty pleasure television shows, and escape to your local laundromat where no one knows your name. Enjoy the whooshing of the machines, or your favorite playlist or TV show, get lost in a book. Indulge in your favorite snacks. Enjoy being just you. You have earned this hour of peace, this time of calm, savor it, and get something done in the meantime.
Whatever your reason for going to the laundromat, remember to bring what you need (laundry bags, favorite soap, fabric softener, coins/refillable card, etc.), keep track of socks trying to escape, and give yourself time to breathe. Going to the laundromat will cut down time, clean deeper than your washer at home, help you go green, and get you out of the house. It will not however fold and put away your clothes, so good luck with that, and let me know if you have a life hack for that. Happy Washing!
What reason do you go to the laundry mat?
Until Next Time – Truly Love,
Cassie
