Building Easter Family Traditions

On Easter Sunday I sat at church watching Ryan’s uncle cuddle up with his grandkids. Later that afternoon we eat lunch together and the kids hunted Easter eggs. Ryan’s mom talked about making Easter cookies with her grandson and his reaction to his Easter basket. I thought about Ryan and I dying eggs with my sister last year. Then, I found myself thinking, “I wonder what our Easter Family Tradition will be?”

Right now we have no Easter Family Tradition of our own- just like Christmas (that sometimes happens when you have only had one together- ha). However, I look at others traditions to see what ours one day might look like. Do you think about your future traditions with your family?

I think each holiday I begin to think about family traditions as those are the things children will always grow up remembering and building their traditions upon. When the time comes do not over look building intentional traditions for holidays or special times of the year. I know that is one thing I will put a lot of thought into when kiddos are around.

I remember the Easter that Grandma Ruby was so sick and we spent the night out there. I went to town to get your Easter basket and visit Grandpa George in the hospital. I got caught in a terrible storm and Tommy had to take you and Grandma into the storm shelter. Thank goodness no one was hurt and the storm passed. We dyed Easter Eggs that dreary night. However, the next morning I remember your curly little head poping up and your eyes wide in delight when you saw your Easter Basket. And of course we hid the eggs outside. You and Tommy spend the rest of the day hiding and rehiding those silly eggs until you were both sick of it. But the giggles and laughs while you were doing it, I will treasure for ever.

I have to say I have some memories of that Easter too. More of the evening before than anything else! ha.

I be you will have a lot of Easter traditions once your little one comes into the world! My mom used to make a coconut covered cake at Easter that was shaped like a bunny and I always entered the “Decorate an Egg” contest in our local community.

I am sure you are right, Pam! I was just thinking yesterday, “I wonder if I will make an Easter basket for her next year?” I mean she will only be 8 months and won’t know the difference. haha. That is fun memories you have!
