Journaling is a major part of my morning self care ritual. It helps me to get focused for the day with a calm and peaceful mindset. Although, I began noticing that sometimes, I was just venting… So, I began using these 4 journal prompts for processing emotions. These self care journal prompts helped me to get out of the ramblings and complaints of daily life and let me put a name to the feelings. Through this process I am able to take action over a situation so that I can support myself and be the person I want to be throughout each day!

What I love about these prompts, that I first saw from on instagram, is that they require not just my mind to be active, but to really let my body feel an emotional response as well. That way I can fully comprehend what emotions are going on and what to do with them. When going through the process, think of it as a checklist. Go through all of the prompts per emotion before moving on to the next.

Journal Prompts for Processing Emotions

  • I feel… Use the feelings wheel to help you determine exactly what you are feeling. A lot of people can only identify main feelings such as happy, mad or sad. Kind of like a color wheel, there are different shades of emotions!
  • I fear… What are you feeling afraid of that may be causing the emotion above?
  • What is true… Try to dig deep and decipher what about the fear is actually true, and what is being exacerbated by emotions. Use this to ground yourself.
  • I need… Identify what it is you need to do to support yourself with these feelings and fears.
  • I can… Identify what is one thing you can do to get closer to meeting that need listed above. Sometimes it’s self care, sharing with someone, addressing an issue, etc.

After completing these journal prompts for processing emotions and finishing up my journal time, I feel so focused and ready to take on my days. Knowing exactly what I need to do to feel calm, cool and collected. Being able to identify our feelings and understanding what we need to do to feel better is a huge part of self care and love. When we take care of ourselves mentally and emotionally then we are able to care more wholeheartedly for those around us. So, remember to take time for yourself each day and try out these journaling prompts to help get you started!

Are there any emotions you are looking forward to sorting out by using these prompts? Let me know in the comments!

Until Next Time – Truly Love
