100 Days of Real Food Cookbook from Lisa Leake

Lisa asked for bloggers to review her cookbook. I applied and was accepted. I received a copy of the cookbook free.

Awhile back Ryan was doing some Google searching and found the blog 100 Days of Real Food. He thought it was pretty neat so he sent the link to me. I then checked it out as well. This family, the Leake’s, who ate like typical American’s decided to challenge themselves to eat 100 days of all real food. They saw such great benefits from it that they started telling others about it and continued with most of their diet changes. Now thousands of people have done the 10 Day Pledge where they experience what it is like to eat real food.

Lisa, the mom, had to learn a whole new way of shopping and cooking. That is right after she figured out what “real food” actually meant. She does admit it was a bit overwhelming at first, but now she has it all down and it is her new normal. That is where the 100 Days of Real Food Cookbook comes in. Although I would not just call it a cookbook! In this book Lisa really thought about everything you would need to know to eat real food, even if you started with very basic knowledge!

I’m going to share with you some things that I really liked about the book (And there are a few so stick with me!)

-The book starts by teaching you what “real food” is by giving illustrations and showing labels.

-There are pointers on how to shop within your budget.

-Lisa is realistic! She gives examples of food that are bad, better and best. She talks about splurge days and even tells you straight forward about some foods that you probably will still eat occasionally that are minimally processed.

-There is a section that is broken into small changes to make each week over 14 weeks that will get you to eating real food at the end rather than being overwhelmed with a huge change at once. I feel like this makes it doable for everyone!

-In the book you can find tips on getting your family on board with the changes, how to let kids get involved in the kitchen and even lunch box ideas.

-I liked the section that included ideas for when you eat with others, eat out or host gatherings. I feel like these are often stumbling points for me so I read closely.

-Oh and get this: there are even weekly meal plans for each season with the shopping lists included! Talk about making it simple.

All that stuff is in the first part of the book which teaches you what real food is, how to find it and make it a new lifestyle. The second part of the book is the cookbook part where all the real food recipes are.

-Each recipe tells you how difficult it is, the prep and cook time, how many it serves, and any special tools you might need.

-It also tells you things like if the recipe is vegetarian or freezer friendly.

–Slow cooker recipes along with sauces and marinates are included as well.

-The recipes call for things that either we already have on hand or simple ingredients!

All in all I am extremely impressed by how she laid the whole book out making it easy to understand and follow. I feel like she made something that can be totally overwhelming into a manageable task. And the recipes look and sound delicious! If you are looking to make a few healthy changes in your diet or ready to make a complete overhaul this book has everything you need!

Until Next Time- Truly Love,

Cassie
