I have been thinking about doing a day in the life post for awhile. I went back and forth on it because I didn’t know if people would really care or if one day would represent our day to day life well. But I finally committed to doing it as a way to connect with all of you. I was super excited to find some other bloggers wanting to do the same kind of post. We all partnered up to bring you a day in the life link up! Make sure to check out their day in the life posts as well.
I wanted to be authentic. To show you that sometimes our posts about learning and traveling look so fun and extraordinary, but we also have many days that are ordinary. Keep in mind what I am sharing with you is how this day unfolded. That doesn’t mean all days work like this! I am a person who thrives on schedule and organization so we have a basic routine, but with a baby and Ryan’s work and workout schedule you never know what a day will bring. I hope you enjoy a little peak into our day to day life!
A Day In The Life- Thursday, March 19, 2015
5:00am- The alarm goes off for Ryan to start his day. Depending on his workouts he either gets straight to a workout or heads to work early to ensure he has time for a lunch or afternoon workout. Since Miss M’s arrival I rarely get up this early. Although, I have been saying I will for about two months now. This morning Ryan snoozed awhile.
6:00am- I got up wondering how long I had before Miss M would wake up. I have been trying to be intentional about getting up before she does so that I can get a little bit of quiet time in to prepare my mind and body for the day. This morning I was able to do my short devotional and foam roll my sore muscles while I prayed. Miss M woke up at about 6:40. She typically wakes between 6:15 and 6:45am. Ryan got up and headed off to work.
7:00am- Miss M and I start her day by nursing her in the rocker, talking and cuddling for a bit and getting her changed. In the mornings she is pretty happy and tend to be willing to play by herself. She either hangs out in the bouncer or her play pin while I eat breakfast and do a few house things. This morning I started laundry and dishes while she happily played.
8:00am- About an hour and a half after Miss M wakes up she is ready for her first nap of the day. I read her a story and put her down for a nap. Then, I have a bit of time to work. Typically, I try to do my blog writing in this time frame. I do what takes the most will power in the early hours of the day. I try hard not to get sucked into email, but I occasionally do.
9:00am- Nap time is typically about 45 minutes so by 9 or 9:30 she is back up and ready to eat some breakfast. I fix her some oatmeal with some fruit most mornings. I eat a little snack as well. Then, we head off to the gym. Some mornings I workout at home, but we go to the gym two or three times a week. Miss M goes to the gym daycare while I get a good workout in. She is there about 45 minutes most visits because I don’t like her to be in there long. This morning I did speed intervals on the treadmill.
11:00am- We head back home and M is about ready for another nap. If it is a day I work out at home or no workout we spend that time playing together. I do stuff around the house while she rolls around the floor. Depending on her mood depends on how that all works out. But today we arrived home in time for another nap at 11:30.
12:00- Miss M typically sleeps until 12:30 or 1. This is the time that I usually grab some food while doing a few tasks. I often debate if I should use this time to shower or work. Today I decided to shower, but was able to get a little work done as well.
1:00pm- Eating time for the baby again. She had sweet potatoes, green beans and avocado. This is the time that I try to give Miss M the most attention because she tends to want it. On nice days we take a 30 minute walk in the neighborhood. Or this is when we do sensory activities. On this day I made bubbles we played with inside since it was a bit chilly. She also helped me fold laundry.
3:00pm- Around this time it is time for the last nap of the day. I lay M down with a little bit of time to finish up work of the day. This normally includes checking email and tasks that take less mind power. Ryan arrives home between 3:30 and 4:30 most days. Some days to do a workout and other days not. He arrived home at 3:30 for a run today.
4:00pm- I have been trying hard to stop working between 4 and 4:30. That allows me to connect with Ryan, prepare dinner and have family time at the end of the day. Today I chopped up veggies for the grill and for salads. After Ryan’s run he grilled us salmon and veggies. I try to do most of the dinner prep before M gets up because she wants my attention and to eat when she wakes.
5:00pm- Feed Miss M and sit down to dinner for Ryan and I. We connect and talk about how our day went. I tell him funny stories about our baby. Like when she grabbed my nose and I made a honk noise. She jumped, was scared and then cracked up laughing. We clean up dinner and pack leftovers for our lunch.
6:00pm- Most days we hang out as a family during this time or I play with M while Ryan works on his speaking stuff or plays video games. But this was the first week we were implementing Mom gets an hour of time by herself. After our seminar a few weeks ago we decided one evening a week Ryan would hang out with M while I spent time being creative or doing whatever I wanted. I decided to work on a project I had been wanting to do for months and then I brainstormed about a project that has been on my bucket list for years.
7:00pm- Time to get baby girl ready for bed. After she is laid down there is a few minutes to wrap up any things that need to be done. This night Ryan and I just laying on the living room floor chatting for a few minutes. Then, it is time for us to shower and get ready for bed.
8:00pm- Ryan and I strive to be in bed at 8, read and chat for a little bit with lights out by 8:30. Often times one of us gets distracted at the 7 o’clock hour and we don’t make it in bed at 8. However, we have done pretty good the last few days and made it this night.
9:00pm- The house is all quiet and there are sleeping bodies getting rest for the following day!
So that is somewhat of a typical day in our house. Again, that is just what this day looked liked. Not all days look like this. Although, I would love for Ryan to grill and have hour of mom time every night 😉
