How to create a master bedroom retreat was easier with the partnership with Nectar who sent us a new mattress. All opinions are my own after sleeping on the mattress for a month. We are still loving it!
How to create a master bedroom retreat is something I have been wondering how to do for awhile now. We moved into this home over a year ago. When we moved out of our old house we prepped it to be rented. That meant filling holes in the walls and repainting. After living for somewhere for five years you have quite a few little holes to fill! Once we moved into this house I was determined not to put anything on the walls until we decided how we were going to decorate each room.
So here we are over a year later and still had not done much to our master bedroom. I had revamped the toddlers room at the same time that I did the baby nursery. Longing for a peaceful place to end our days together I was ready to finally tackle our room! Here is what our room has looked like the past year- just bare walls with piles of clothes for decorations.
First, I started thinking what I wanted in our room to make it a calm, restful place. Then, I researched some budget friendly ideas. Here is what I came up with to create a master bedroom retreat.
How To Create A Master Bedroom Retreat
1. A Bed You Both Love- The whole reason we have a master bedroom is to sleep so make sure you have a bed you both love! When we first got married we upgraded our bed which was much needed. Lately, though we both were not enjoying the bed. My husband, Ryan, was waking up in the middle of the night not being able to go back to sleep. I slept fine through the night, but felt so beat up when I woke up. We were on the lookout for a new mattress!
We decided to go with the Nectar Sleep Memory Foam Mattress. It has 5 layers that provides firm support, but softer sleep. We also were intrigued because it comes with a Full Comfort Guarantee and a Forever Warranty. We had been seeing commercials all over the place for beds like these and wanted to try one out. The extra bonus of Nectar is it comes with two pillows which was nice too. We both are loving our mattress! Ryan is sleeping through the night and my body feels restored when I wake up. Finding the right bed is the first must for creating a master bedroom retreat.
2. Make It A Peaceful Place- To me it was important that our master bedroom was a place that I could walk into and feel calm and peaceful. After a long day with two little ones the last thing I wanted was to walk into our bedroom and feel overwhelmed or overstimulated. For me this meant clean and sleek. Simple decorations with little clutter. It also meant soft cool colors and a little sitting area to read or journal.
3. Add Some Personality- The last thing I wanted to do was make sure that the room had details that represented us. Last year we went to Hawaii to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. That was a big trip for us and it was a wonderful time in our marriage. It also was an amazing trip that was full of peaceful settings and awe over God’s creations. I have been longing to go back! So I decided to use that inspiration as the backdrop for how to create a master bedroom retreat. I used pictures from our trip for the main decorations.
Your master bedroom gets to be a place where you can go to connect, share, play and rest. It also gets to be a versatile place to meet both of your needs. Most importantly your master bedroom should be a place where both you and your mate are comfortable and can be rested and restored!
What is something you want to include in your master bedroom retreat?

A bedroom that’s peaceful and blissful is very important to me too; I actually think that I will have to get an interior designer to get it all right.
Susan Evans says
It’s important to have a comfortable bed in the master bedroom, and to create a clutter-free restful retreat so that you and your spouse are able to enjoy the most important room in the house.

Clutter-free, now that’s the hard part! And I love the vacation pictures idea!

I totally agree with making the bedroom restful. I always try to keep the bedroom picked up and cute so that my husband feels good whenever he walks in. I have a lot of red in there to keep it romantic, too!
Cassie says
Yes, Alice, a restful bedroom is a must!
Jemimah says
Cassie that looks awesome! So cozy and calming Ahhhh!
I love the personal touches everywhere. I too need a calm retreat in the bedroom. As well as lots of white bedding. Makes me feel like I’m at a hotel 😉
Cassie says
Oh yes, Jemimah, white bedding does make me feel calm and comfy. But I am terrified of actually having white bedding! haha.

I’ve been given this great advice on bedrooms and have stuck to it for almost a decade: a bedroom should only be a place for rest and intimacy, meaning that there shouldn’t be distractions like T.V., bright alarm clocks, or any other distractions that could create stress and difficulty sleeping/connecting within the space (that means animals in bed also!). Your mattress looks so comfortable and I like what you’ve done with your wall-space!
Cassie says
Oh that is good, Jess! We have always been mindful of no kids in our bedroom and we have no tv in there. But other things we could be mindful about.
Jess says
I love your bed! It looks so comfy and it is a nice upgrade, along with all the new pictures and trinkets you put on your walls:)
Cassie says
Thank you, Jess! It is so nice. We love the Nectar bed!
